Engineering expertise only comes with practice, by means of exposure to real-world dilemmas and techniques for addressing them. Above all, you need passion and interest to get through your leadership journey – you’ve got to enjoy what you do. Engineering is not hard; it only needs full determination, full attention and self-discipline. . She feels as that engineers have traditionally taken a role that exists somewhat in the shadows, which is not consistent with their involvement in shaping communities. I have been lucky enough to work with engineering leaders who care about their people, the environment and society. What is lasting turns out to be the light and fire that is lit within the individuals (which even tops the innovation, performance, community and environmental good that have been along the way). When asked about the contribution engineers make to the community, Yeung said the work of engineers often goes unnoticed. She views the profession as very humble, full of people who are committed to their work do not always seek recognition.
